FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do llamas and alpacas spit? -
Sure, but not generally at people. They spit at each during
competition for food, or just to let one of their fellow farm-mates
know that
they're being annoying. The only time we've ever been spit on is
when we've gotten between two feeding llamas, and once while giving
shots (but of course that's understandable - shots hurt!)
How much fiber do you get from an
animal? - Well, it varies, but typically between three and five
pounds per animal per year. There is very little oil in llama and
alpaca fiber however (unlike wool from sheep), so there isn't much
weight loss after cleaning.

I have some of my own animal fiber
at home. Can you spin it for me and have it made into a sweater
or hat? - Absolutely! Check out our
custom work page. We can process
llama, alpaca and wool for you, as well as blends containing mohair.
I have a really big (small) head.
Can you make a hat to fit me? - Of course. Surprisingly, every
year at our shows we hear from people who are thrilled with our
hats, saying that until now they haven't found a hat that fits just right. We can make a custom hat for you to
the measurements that you specify.
Is your stuff really completely
handmade? - You bet. Except where indicated, all of our products
are made from handspun yarns and then handknit or woven into their
final form. (We also shear the animals ourselves!)
